Dear Colleagues and MSK USG enthusiasts,

At the outset I would like to take this opportunity to thank MUS members for bestowing the honour of electing me as President, Muskuloskeletal Ultrasound Society ( MUS) for the term 2022-2024.

It has been a very rewarding journey since year 2013 not only for the Society but also for me at a personal level . With the support of 11 Founder members I saw my self steadfastly growing in the ranks from being the Founder general Secretary to subsequently serving the Society as Vice President.

Today the Society is 10 years old, definitely young, even so it might be worth while to take a stock of what we have been doing, what we have achieved, and in the light of the experience gained, consider what we should do in future.  The aims and objectives of MUS have been very focused . Its efforts have been towards establishing musculoskeletal ultrasound as an indispensable investigative modality in evaluation of bones and joints pathologies. Its just not in India that we are witnessing resource crunch. It’s a phenomenon that is gripping medical practice like a vice world over. Under the circumstances, MSK ultrasound has proven to be a very useful ally for diagnosing majority of MSK related pathologies in a quicker, safer and cost effective manner.

MUS started with multilevel teaching programs, foremost was by way of ushering MUSoc in year 2015 and bringing an eye opening powerful statement to India. We followed it up with Annual conferences and the highlight in each was bringing world’s largest number of hands on workshops under one roof.

Feather in the cap was of course ushering MUS -UCAM, Post graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in collaboration with UCAM Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain

We must also remember that there are many professional organizations or associations, devoted to achieve one or the other of the objectives as detailed by MUS. Individually each one of us is connected in one way or another with these organizations, and collectively we may say, we also represent all of them.  It should be our endeavour, therefore, not only to work in close collaboration with such bodies, but also to find new path ways to reach the desired goals together.

MUS fostered the non-traditional method of organizing monthly webinars through Covid times to keep the interest alive and for furtherance of its objectives .  These were, indeed necessary for creating newer opportunities and sustainance of learning concourse.

Through these webinars, the talent that emerged as faculty was very heartening. Our Trainer pool expanded and the Society got richer with these experienced professionals who were willing to impart their knowledge to the interested sonologists.

I have a deep belief that in such endeavours, purely academic bodies like ours have a distinctive role to play.  Our task does not merely end by lending our name to one meeting or other.   In other words, I wish to draw your particular attention that our primary objective is to create fresh stimuli for scientific thinking and for a collective impact on improving patient care.

And I can assure you that its influence can be felt by people from other disciplines as well, by generating new pattern of thinking and applications .   If it would not be so, I am afraid, the Society’s efforts will be in no way different from those of other bodies engaged in similar pursuits.

Ladies and gentlemen, before I conclude I would like to leave one thought with you.   Our Society owes its existence to the initiative taken by some of us who truly believed in the effective role MSK USG could play in clinical practice, much against the popular belief prevailing. It’s still an arduous journey to help MSK USG find its rightful place in Indian medical practice

Placing a strong faith in the younger members of the Society who will be the face of MUS tomorrow, we have, therefore, to justify the trust placed in us.  Let us accept the challenge and continue to work towards a stronger place for musculoskeletal ultrasound in clinical practice!

Thank you. Jai Hind.
